Central Cee is one of the most significant British rappers of his generation and his Paris fanbase is enormous. The show at Accor Arena sold out quickly and the pit on the night was one of the more physically intense environments I have documented at a rap concert in Paris.

The opening act was a French rapper who warmed the room effectively. The crowd was already moving when the main show started and the energy in the fosse escalated from the first bar.

Central Cee entering the stage in a Toyota pickup truck was a visual choice that landed perfectly with an audience that understood the reference. The platform moved through the crowd area as he performed the opening songs, which created an immediate intimacy with a venue that holds many thousands of people.

The pit was genuinely difficult to navigate safely. The pogos during the heavier tracks were relentless and the density of the crowd meant that movement in any direction required significant effort. I positioned myself near the edge of the fosse after the first few songs for a better angle and better safety.

Doja, Sprinter, and Overseas were the tracks that produced the largest crowd responses. The catalogue is tight enough that there were very few moments of reduced energy throughout the set.

The surprise guest appearance of JRK and Freeze Corleone sent the crowd into something close to delirium. Freeze Corleone is a specific kind of cultural figure in French rap, deeply respected within the culture and largely unknown outside it, and his appearance at this show said something about Central Cee’s understanding of the French market.

I rated the show highly. The production was solid, the crowd energy was exceptional, and the guest appearances were well chosen. This was one of the better international rap shows in Paris in recent memory.
