Montmartre is one of those places where every narrow street hides a story. On this walk, we followed the filming locations of Emily in Paris while discovering the legends that make this corner of the city so special.
The Legend of Dalida
Montmartre is famous for Dalida, the beloved singer who was originally from Egypt and spent much of her life here. Her house is tucked away on a quiet street that most people never find. Dalida was known for her charisma — many men fell in love with her, and their stories often ended in tragedy. Even the President of France, François Mitterrand, admired her, despite having a wife and daughters.
Emily in Paris and a Magical Night
One of the filming spots was discovered almost by accident. Emily was shooting an ad for a luxurious mattress with her friend Camille. Late one night, after a few drinks, they stumbled upon a place lit up by light — something unusual in Montmartre, where the nights are dark and a little scary. It became one of the beautiful paradoxes of this city.
A Wish on Dalida’s Statue
Legend says that if you place both hands on the chest of Dalida’s statue and make a wish, it will come true by the end of the year. So we made ours: to host 100 events this year on YouTube and to reach 10,000 subscribers. Here’s hoping Dalida — and a little help from above — makes it happen.
The Hidden Street and Dalida’s House
There is a narrow, hidden street in Montmartre that few people know about. It leads right to the house where Dalida lived. Sadly, this is also the house where her boyfriend took his own life, and where Dalida herself later did the same.
Montmartre has always felt a little separate from Paris. Long ago, it was outside the city, almost like a suburb. For that reason, people from Montmartre don’t call themselves Parisians — they proudly call themselves Montmartrois. This place is truly different from everywhere else in the city.
The Last Stop: Bar 82 Kavandu
Our final location was Bar 82 Kavandu, where Camille met Emily’s ex, Mathieu. Unfortunately, the bar was closed the day we visited. In the show, the scene was filmed outside, with European-style tables swapped in to replace the usual picnic-style ones.
Final Thoughts
And with that incredible view, our Emily in Paris tour came to an end. Paris might not have everything perfect, but that’s part of what makes it magical — and it’s exactly what inspired me to start sharing the real Paris. So I’ll give Emily a little credit after all. Paris isn’t perfect, but that’s what makes it even more beautiful.
